Hello everybody
« on: May 14, 2026, 09:21:34 PM »
Having spent a month or two reading snippets in this forum I have decided to take the plunge and sign up as I know that the experience and knowhow within will be very useful!

Having previously owned 2 x Mk1 Honda Fit (Flex) models, I knew how good and versatile a vehicle the Jazz was. Having returned to the UK I found and bought a low mileage (38k) Jazz ES + 1.4 IVTEC, I did not want a new hybrid, something as analogue as possible whilst benefitting from modern economy figures would do me fine.

I have not been disappointed, having had the car for 5 months it's running beautifully 51.3mpg after
2,000 miles of mixed driving and now that we are out of winter mpg is continuing to improve.
It is the 5 speed manual but it's very low geared, 5th gear from 30mph (on the level) and I always feel it would benefit from a 6th gear when in high speed cruise! My previous experience with the earlier Mk 1 was purely city driving so I didn't encounter the high speed cruise and I have to get acclimatized to such a high revving engine!
Amazingly for an 11 year old car there is absolutely no rust and all the peripherals are functioning correctly.

Glad to be here, Tinkerman

Welcome! :)

I am also a newcomer to the mk2 Jazz, and I am also astonished at how well the gears take to low speeds. I can easily cruise at 30mph in 5th, and at 20-odd in 4th.

Coming from an older, smaller car (2003 Yaris), I find the Jazz’s engine very quiet and smooth at high speeds, though also find myself itching for a 6th gear at times. I suspect I am missing the point of the VTEC! I think these cars are very happy to sit at 3000-4000 RPM.

Honda makes engines, which provide most fun between mid range and redline. I suggest all Jazz owners to put in 2nd gear at low speed and give it full throttle until redline e.g. rpm limiter. Then you know where the sweet range for the engine is.  ;D

Yes having read some posts about that. I did drive with a heavier right foot a couple of days ago and yes its a different animal! It's just getting used to it. The last car that I drove with an engine of less than 1.6L was a Morris Minor fifty odd years ago! Since then I've been driving up to 3.0L so a lazier lower revving experience.

I need to qualify that the Morris Minor was the last car with less than 1.6L that I had driven in the UK!
The Honda Fits were abroad doing city only driving max speed 80kph!
