How to deactivate the folding mirror function
« on: February 14, 2026, 04:01:11 PM »
Good day
Would anyone know how to deactivate/bypass the folding mirror function without removing the fuse as the fuse is shared with the fan?
My left mirror folding motor is making a noise when I turn on the ignition so bypassing it would be a good short term solution until I can get it seen to.

Do your mirrors fold in and out when car is locked/unlocked?

The Mk1s in the UK never had this feature, you had to fold or unfold the mirrors using the switch next to the window switches.

Thank you for that reply and yes, they do fold using the switch on the drivers side. The problem relates to the left mirror motor being  stuck in operation mode when I turn on the ignition even tho they are in the correct open position.

I know that being in South Africa doesnt mean you are always driving about in the dusty Veldt ,  but the switch might be stuck in the on position due to dust etc.   A good squirt  of switch/contact cleaner might help.

Thanks for that but the switch functions normally and activates the fold and open positions. When I fold the mirrors the motor stops but when I open them only the left side continues to turn, so I decided to remove the door panel to access the loom connection and snipped the black wire that powers the left side folding function. So now when I press the fold function, only the right side mirror folds, but at least there’s no continuous whirring of the motor.
