Urgent query re Honda Extended Guarantees & Service Plans
« on: January 28, 2026, 01:42:37 PM »
Hello. I'm trading my much loved 2003 Jazz in for a Jazz I-VTEC EX - 2013 registration with 66000 miles on the clock, with a full service history, no MOT failures & in very good condition.  It will come with 1 year Guarantee and I've been offered a 24 month Extended Guarantee for £599.00 .. it won't cover wear & tear so is it worth taking up?  I've also been offered a Honda 12 & Honda 12 Plus Service Plan for £759.00 & again I wonder if that's worth taking out. Would really appreciate any comments. Thanks Wendy G

In my opinion no for the warranty. . As you pointed out it will  have a lot of 'fair wear and tear' get out clauses and small print.

The service plan  probably no but there are things to consider.  If you will want main Honda servicing  anyway the the cost may be competitive against paying for the same number of services separately.  And having Honda services may include Honda recovery assistance, which may be a useful saving on paying separately for r RAC/AA/greenflag etc.  (But check it will include recovery)      And if you do decide to take out the  warranty, Honda servicing may be helpful if you need  to claim  ( maybe even a condition of the warranty)

Otherwise you may find that  servicing by a competent independent garage  will save money overall that will be better put towards your next car.

And are you confident you are likely to own the car for at least 3 years.  If you sell it sooner  you may not get your full moneys worth

But it wont be me that pays if you make an unlucky choice.
My IQ test came back negative
