Engine error
« on: January 10, 2026, 04:27:17 PM »
Hi all. Noticed my car struggling occasionally for power and saw that the engine light was on. Checking it the re are two error codes.  P0300 and P0301. . Description of 300 is 'random/multiple cylinder misfires detected' and 301 is  'cylinder 1 misfire detected'. Is this anything to do with the new backbox that was (rather rushed) fitted recently? Or is it related to sparkplugs?? Any ideas please?

fwiw, a leaking backbox wouldn't normally cause a misfire imho.  It would just sound 'blowey', which I guess is the reason why it was replaced?

If you clear the fault codes, does the 301 code return, or does the fault seem to move to another cylinder?

When were the 8 spark plugs last changed?

If the 301 returns, it could also be a coil pack issue given the age of the car.

Don't think the plugs were ever changed. 😬

Will do what you said tomorrow. Thanks.

Honda quote every 25k miles or 4 years, whichever comes first, for replacing the 8 normal spark plugs.  (GD1 was not fitted with longer life iridium spark plugs which I think were used in Mk2 onwards)

Hi there. Ok, cleared the errors. Took the car for a run and whilst the engine error light did not pop up again I can definitely feel the slight jerky reticence to push on occasionally, usually in third. So the fault is still there.
