I only use brake hold if I'm on a road that has a slope otherwise its neutral,
I am sure I read in handbook that the parking brake can have a second pull
on lever for a stronger hold if it wasn't the jazz it was my previous car, years
ago I got rammed in the back of car at traffic lights it would not have been so
severe if the handbrake had not been on.
Eh? With an automatic I use P when parked, and stay in D (or B ) when held up in stationary traffic. in an automatic Neutral is only really for pushing a car round a workshop etc.
I dont think there is a double pull for the electric handbrake on the mk4. Although less handbrake power might buffer a rear end shunt by allowing the car to move a bit, it can also increase the chances that you will also get front end damage being pushed into the car in front .Or hit crossing pedestrians , or the car pushed out into the junction and hit by fast moving cross traffic (which might be a train

)
Having said that , am I right in thinking that 'brake hold' holds the brakes on at the same braking pressure you used to bring the car to a stop ? . Which might not have been much if you stopped gently . 'Hill start assist ' stops you rolling back again on an incline, but how well will the system score in preventing a rear end shunt into crossing pedestrians etc? Will hill start assist come into action and increase braking effect if the car moves unexpectedly?
