2018 Jazz observations
« on: November 05, 2025, 05:41:44 PM »
Hi All

I thought I'd share with you my observations on my 2018 Jazz RS

It's a 2018 GK5 RS (Facelift) 1.5 ltr. engine
6 Speed Manual Transmission
74K Kms on the clock.
Skyride blue

What I observed so far..

Engine clattering noise few seconds after cold start (disappears when engine has warmed up)
knocking sound when accelerating (appears to be coming from front left / middle area of the engine bay)
Random engine hesitation (happens after driving for few minutes from a cold start)

Its been thru the dealership so many times, but my concerns still exists.

Any inputs from you guys is greatly appreciated!

welcome, same spec. car as you

" Random engine hesitation (happens after driving for few minutes from a cold start) "

If you mean hesitation on acceleration while the engine is warming up but ok after ....  yep, mine has done this for the 4 years I've owned it. I live with it , reckon it's badly designed ecu mapping affecting fuel supply.

not experienced the other problems but mine's only done 40K , what I do get is a slight judder when pulling away, always had it and it's not getting any worse.

Hi, thanks for your input. That’s good to know that I’m not the only one having this hesitation issue.

I have same spec and even same colour. And I have had the car from new. I wouldn't call it hesitation, but there is some occasional jerking in the rpm range 2000-3000 especially when it's half warm. That is a feature of this engine.

Now its 3 of us having this kind of experience with our units. :)

I guess there's more out there who's got the same issue.

It's not just us 3 , this has been discussed many times on the forum.

eg.  https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=11621.0

The conclusion seems to be it's a  " feature " !   of the 1.5 engine.

Knocking on acceleration has been resolved.
It turned out to be a failure of both engine mounts.
Due to occasional engine hesitations, the mounts had developed internal stress that affected their structural integrity causing the engine to flex excessively during acceleration.

with the clatter at cold start could be the vtec unit, have any of you been using independent garages with non honda oil filters

The car has always been serviced by Honda (With full service history)

That cold engine clattering noise is apparently a characteristic of these L15 Earth Dreams engine  :(

clattering noise on startup could be vtc actuator going. if you always had your car "serviced" at a dealer, better go to an independent garage asap and have your oil changed, you might be still driving on your original oil...
