Rear wiper arm
« on: September 01, 2025, 01:52:32 PM »
Hi all. Trying to replace my rear wiper arm which snapped. Got one from eBay but it seems like a different fit. Looks like the old one can only come off via the inside panel? Help!! :(

It's this bit that I can't get off. Yes I've removed the nut but I can't get the whole  thing off?!?

Splined wiper arms are often  difficult to remove.  You can buy special puller tools   but there are techniques for removal without special  tools.
Try this video. You may find others with alternative techniques.

It does come off from outside, at least in my 2007 model. After removing the nut, it comes by pulling away. You can't remove from the inside as it attached to the motor shaft.

Losing the will to live now. It won't come off!!!  It's not like I can book into a garage for something so basic. What do I do?

It's best to use a dedicated wiper arm puller tool to remove it cleanly. If you already have a small bearing puller, that might work as an alternative.

      Hi There.
Have you got 2 small to medium hammers or one hammer and hand size block of metal?.
The method i use to remove stubborn nuts or bolt heads is this. Get a towel placed
under the striking object to protect painted car panel secure with tape if keeps falling or get a
second person to help you. Then use larger of the 2 hammers or block of metal to hold
against side of wiper arm that is stuck to wiper spindle, Then use other hammer on opposite
larger hammer to hit against wiper arm body a few times, Careful not to damage paint work
(Towel Protection) you can move larger hammer around the body wiper arm keeping hitting
hammer on opposite side all the time. This should release corrosion join between the 2 parts.
i.e put the nut back but leave loose to stop wiper arm falling off and damaging paint work.
                                             Hope this Helps Henry

Thanks but if you look at my pic it's pretty difficult to do what you say. Plus I don't want to  end up damaging the prop shaft and it costing me a fortune to repair. 😕

Wiper arms usually do not require a special puller, although that may be easier to use. I've always succeeded with a small universal three-jaw gear puller. Only very seldomly can a wiper arm, which have sat there for years, be removed without a puller. Do not use hammer, or you will do bigger damage.

It may be cheaper getting a garage to remove it rather than buying a puller you'll probably never use again.

Hi There, Looked at picture not much wall of wiper arm around spindle body to tap with hammer
(I see now). Could use nail punch to hold against body and use hammer on punch.
              2 man job now.

To remove the wiper arm without damage its best to buy a puller Look on ebay type wiper puller and the first up will do the job cost £7 50 Worth every penny
