Speaker cabling is a huge topic if you search into any hi-fi group. It is invariably down to the effect on the sound rather than anything to do with current capacity.
There is always heated debate on the relevance of cable design, conductor cross section, size and number of strands, spacing, even what the insulation is made of.
I've experimented quite a bit with home hi-fi. My findings are that the cables do definitely affect the sound, if I had to sum up my conclusions simply I would say big copper cross section in a few thick strands improves bass but muddies treble, many thin strands cleans up high frequencies but takes the "attack " out of bass.
I use cables made up of a combination of both, but almost everyone will have somewhat different opinions and preferences.
My approach tends to be towards "bang for buck" value, you can get pretty good results (IMHO) without spending silly money, it can be better but prices can get prohibitive for me.
