Best speakers for Honda Jazz
« on: June 21, 2025, 12:59:22 AM »
Hello all

Can anyone recommend some tried and tested speakers?

Cabin noise drowns out the OEM speakers when I hit 40+ mph  :'( (I know I could whack the volume all the way up, but wondering if there's better quality speakers that would help, or maybe repositioning speakers).

Ideally I'd replace the existing speakers in the doors, but open to other suggestions. Looking to spend no more than 200 GBP incl fitting (not sure how realistic it is though).

p.s. which Honda model has the best cabin sound insulation? I was loaned the HRV and the cabin sound insulation wasn't great - thought it would be much quieter.

Not sure I follow your logic here. If the problem is cabin noise, how will replacing the speakers fix that? Surely you need to look at the noise sources and see whether anything can be done there? The Jazz is quite noisy at speed, it is after all a small efficient car with relatively little room for acoustic damping (which is generally quite bulky and heavy). Is it possible that some of the factory-fitted noise attenuation has been removed or displaced at some time?

My Crosstar has eight speakers, I find them more than adequate.

I wouldn't have considered that many were actually necessary.
I don't have any "noise" problems with them as long as the windows are closed and there's nothing anywhere that could cause a rattle.

I'm trying to remember exactly,  but IIRC you can adjust/select the level of automatic speed related volume control. Maybe it is off or on minimum, perhaps setting it to a higher level might help.
I must admit the audio in my 2018 isn't brilliant,  it's about OK, but as others say the road noise tends to dominate (I think wind noise is pretty good). Maybe the tyres are somewhat noisy,  different makes and versions have quite different noise characteristics. My feeling FWIW  would be to try to address any road noise issues first,.

Same here, albeit as I don't drive out of the region much, I'm more concerned about changing radio stations on the go as I really struggle with the display should I have to.

If you store your favourite stations in advance as presets, you can cycle through them using the steering wheel buttons, there’s no need to faff around with the display.

Thanks, I have but not sure about when I'm out of range. Originally, I programmed the presets whilst I was on the drive.
I suppose it's about time to revisit it...

Recommending speakers is an impossible task. Every ear interprets sound differently. What I find beautiful, you may find horrible. The only tip I can give: go listen to multiple speaker stores, take a CD or MP3 with you and trust your own ears. You have to decide which brand has the Wowfactor. If you really want a major upgrade get yourself better speaker cables: (Oelhbach, Siltech, Vandenhul, Monster Cable etc).

Personally i would do as Embee suggests, check the handbook to see if the car features  speed related automatic volume adjustment. And if so whether this has been switched off or is adjustable.

Also check how many speakers the car had originally. It may be more than just the two door speakers . Check they are all working, and  whether left/right and front/rear  balance can be adjusted.      Its possible that a higher spec model has more speakers , than your car  .  (perhaps dashtop speakers etc)   . Fitting extra speakers from a higher spec Jazz might be an economic way to improve  performance.

I am no great expert on Hi fidelity sound. I may be entirely wrong in saying that  whilst improved speaker performance ,better bass, better positioning etc  may bring benefits  , ultimately its just  a better quality  at louder volumes   :D . You already have scope to 'pump up the volume'.

Its would be easy to spend £200 + with limited benefits  if you get it wrong.   I'd rather put it in a  piggy bank and be £200 closer to my next car.    ;D

Thinking about it a bit more,  the first question would be whether you can get it to sound "good " while the car is stationary with the engine off by adjusting the settings. If you can then the issue isn't with the system as such, it's the car noise.
I find with mine that it can sound pretty good like that, but as soon as you start moving at any speed the road noise spoils it completely. Then it's just about OK.

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions - it gives me a lot of food for thought.

One thing I’m considering is adding wind deflectors for the wind noise - I think that’s one of the main sources of noise when on the motorway.

p.s. has anyone driven a car where you thought “wow, can hardly hear any noise”?

Tbh the stock speakers aren't too bad. It's the head unit which is utter rubbish. I updated mine to the joying unit on AliExpress, and also did a speaker update after, I just put in some cheap alpines and they do sound better louder, but not by that much, it's the headunit which makes the biggest difference
