going to key.
« on: June 16, 2025, 11:21:18 AM »
As we are aware the chances of a car being pinched are greater if you totally rely on keyless ( as I do) So - if you want to go Key only - can you disable our Jazz's the keyless part?? so you can only access with the key.

If it were possible, which I doubt, you have keyless start, modern cars are computers on wheels making them vulnerable to theft, If they want it they will take it

Switch the key off when not using it = no signal to intercept. Or use a Faraday bag at home or in your pocket. Keyless is a boon to thieves, much easier to steal now than it has ever been. Look at the statistics, theft coming down consistently until 10 years ago when keyless started to come in, then upwards again.

Mine goes straight in a Faraday bag... but I also use the Stoplock pro elite, and I use it everywhere I stop.

Press both lock and unlock button at the same time, wait 2 secs, red led gives one flash. Wireless now turned off. Careful if you are still near the car, if buttons not pressed exactly at the same time it is possible it may unlock without you realising it, also the key may reactivate in your pocket with a little push. Why manufacturers can not put a little slide switch on the side of the key to make it foolproof is beyond me.

Press both buttons together and hold until you get a double red flash. That's it, key is dead until you press either button
Let's be careful out there !

Thanks guys - but If I understand it right - the Car itself is open to any form of electronic (keyless) opening - what I am looking for is the car itself to ONLY accept a key - no other form of entry - so all electronic entry is disabled ( by the owner).

Despite the statistics I dont think the Jazz is at especially  high risk of Keyless theft .  More common with the kind of high end luxury cars and 4x4's  wanted by those criminals, at home and abroad ,  willing pay other criminals for an obviously dubious car.   Some more modest cars might be stolen for spare parts to repair  cars  written off and sold   cheaply because legitimate  spares were unobtainable from  China or Elon.

Personally I dont worry unduly that it will be stolen.  I have declared the car lives on the drive ,so I wont have to explain why it wasnt in a locked garage  (I do have a garage but access is too narrow for practical daily use) . I have paid an insurance  premium which takes into account any increased theft risk . I dont want it stolen    but in that unlikely event , its just a tool and replaceable.   Indeed I'm not sure i'd want the same car back if its now a stolen/recovered desecrated by criminal scumbags..  .

My thoughts exactly LV

I don’t think the Jazz is high on the list of thefts

I have to park mine on the street outside the house (until I move into my detached house with driveway)

To be honest I don’t worry about it as I know it’s not that attractive to thieves and also the catalyst is not that easy to get to as it’s not under the car but up under the bonnet somewhere

The vast majority of keyless theft is the relay attack

With the key(s) disabled that can't happen
Let's be careful out there !

How about removing the batteries from the key fobs. That should prevent the relay attack. Then the doors can still be locked and unlocked by using the mechanical key. I believe it would still be possible to start the Jazz by holding the key fob near the start button, even if it doesn't have a battery.

I understand about removing battery etc - but if the thief has the code - and the car still is electronically active - then thats no good - I am asking if it is possible to totally immobilise the car electronics so that it can ONLY be opened by a mechanical key.

Unfortunately (for us!) Honda in their unfathomable "wisdom" chose tto:
a) ignore these customer wishes
b) implement and maintain! only a "mediocre* security level on "key-less access" to our cars
c) seem to be quite unwilling to change anything about this

To add insult to insury: They make us even pay for making our cars vulnerable to this kind of attack, because "keyless entry" only comes with more expensive trims!

(sometimes the devil on my shoulder gets the better of me and wants to slap someone "responsible" badly!
but that's just one of my many character flaws....)
