First check the owners manual. The correct coolant level for a jazz is not necessarily at 'MAX' ,It can be partway between min and max ,even quite close to min. I wouldnt necessarily assume that a used car dealer selling a 14 year old car would have checked the coolant level. And if they do they might over fill it. If you overfill a coolant system the car might vent the excess via its overflow system until it reaches its prefered level. . You wouldnt be the first owner to perpetually top up a coolant system that is not actually leaking . Also if the dealer did in fact find a significant drop in coolant they should have fixed the leak. Not just passed the problem to the new owner to find when the engine overheats.
You could try monitoring the car regularly for a short while to see if the level drops any further. Be careful not to drive too far without checking and stop immediately if there is any sign of overheating. . And also dont delay it too long if there is still a possibility the dealer, or a warranty, will cover any repairs.
Is it possible the 'coolant' smell was in fact screen wash? If its definately coolant this may suggest the leak may be the coolant pipes to the heater matrix, or the matrix radiator, or the heat control valve leaking (a bit like a tap) .
Sorry I dont know any likely suspects for the Jazz in particular but in general coolant leaks are often where rubber hoses are clamped to the radiator etc . Many manufacturers use spring clamps which are cheap and quick to fit on the assembly line, But as the rubber hose starts to soften with age the clamp can continue to cut into the rubber . "jubilee" type worm drive clamps are better.
Also any 'pressure caps' on radiators or coolant bottles. .(The mk 4 has two caps but you may only have one)
Coolant leaks wont necessarily be seen as wetness and dripping. Its often in the form of steam, which is invisible (not to be confused with the visible water vapour that quickly forms and commonly also refered to as steam )
Thus the source of a leak may be completely dry when you check , but is often evident by white or light coloured staining.
