I've seen a few of these driving around. The nearest dealer is 40 miles and over an hour's drive away, mind.

For GWM Ora the nearest dealer is almost two hours away. (And yet there are two Funky Cats locally).

Latest advice is to stop UK defence employees employees plugging their phones into any Chinese EV's, even just to charge, as there is a risk that the phones data will be sent to Beijing

Just a few lines from the articles that Kremmen links here:

"But others have said it is unlikely the Chinese state will risk the impact to reputation should brands be associated with international spying.

James Bore, managing director of cyber technology firm Bores Group, said: 'There are theoretical attacks which allow your phone or your devices to be compromised through plugging them into a charger, but these have been shown under lab conditions, and I have seen no evidence that it has ever actually happened in the wild.

'The moment it does, the Chinese car company market collapses, and that's not the sort of economic upheaval that China really wants.'"

and:

"However, another expert in cyber security suggested that the Chinese state is unlikely to risk the success of their growing car exports by embroiling itself in an international spying row.

James Bore, managing director of cyber technology firm Bores Group, said: “I am yet to see any evidence that there is malicious software being spread by Chinese cars."

But I would like to point out another danger: The use of telephones made in China!!! And what to think of the use of, among other things, coffee machines, shavers and vacuum cleaners made in China? :o

Just looked up the location of my nearest BYD dealer. Hendy Honda in Tonbridge is now service outlet only and will soon be a BYD dealer.

Breathing new life into this BYD Dolphin topic: Because here is the BYD Dolphin G DM-i :

What is your opinion on this new car? A plug-in hybrid with an electric range of 25 or 65 miles! Does it pose a threat to the "hybrid establishment"—the Toyota Yaris, Renault Clio, and even ;) the Honda Jazz?

After all, if you have the ability to charge (and a standard wall outlet is all it takes), many people could handle the distances one covers daily without using a single drop of petrol! Cheap and clean! And for long distances, it’s a fuel-efficient hybrid with no charging anxiety!

An interesting real-world fuel economy video:
If it's too long, skip to the results at 24:10.

And all this at prices that are no higher—or even significantly lower—than those of the competitors in that "hybrid establishment" while the standard equipment level is clearly better...
Yes... I know ... it's Chinese ... can it be any good?

Two reviews (both well worth reading!):
https://www.independent.co.uk/cars/electric-vehicles/byd-dolphin-g-dmi-review-b2993793.html
Steve Fowler Electric Vehicles Editor:
The verdict: BYD Dolphin G DM-i
Apparently the G in Dolphin G stands for Genius – a bold saying, but BYD might just be right. The Dolphin G DM-i is smooth, roomy, clever, very well equipped and possibly BYD’s most convincing European car yet. I’d buy one as a little runaround and probably end up using it for much more – I was hugely impressed by it.

https://www.carwow.co.uk/byd/news/10939/byd-dolphin-g-small-plug-in-hybrid-review-timon-werner-pachmayr
Final Verdict Timon Werner-Pachmayr: A surprising amount of sense
The BYD Dolphin G is a car without any real competition. That is precisely what makes it so interesting.
It’s a plug-in hybrid tailored perfectly for people who want to do a lot of electric driving on their daily commute but want the security of a petrol engine to cover long distances without any added stress. It might be a car that absolutely no one was actively crying out for, but it makes a surprising amount of sense for everyday life.

What do you think of it?

Didn't I start a new topic here, in Off Topic (Non-Honda)?
And has it just vanished without a trace? Can anyone explain to me how that happened?
I was planning to keep interested people updated on our (future) new car here, but...

I will be best if we can please keep to one topic for discussion relating to the BYD Dolphin:

https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=17102.15

Unfortunately, there are three completely different BYD Dolphins:
1. BYD Dolphin. This was the first Dolphin, still around, an EV:

2. BYD Dolphin Surf. Completely different smaller EV:

3. BYD Dolphin G. Supermini, not an EV but a plug-in hybrid:

Just because BYD is making a mess of the naming, surely we don't have to go along with it?
It’s simple, really: completely different cars belong in different topics, right?

There were too many similar posts regarding these cars across many topics, some of which appeared to be copy and pasted from each other.

That’s why I thought I’d bring a bit of order to things. There is not 1 BYD Dolphin, there are 3 different BYD Dolphins.
In the "Off Topic (Non-Honda)" section, I was creating (or at least trying to create... ;)) separate topics for very different cars that have confusingly similar names.
After all, a BYD Dolphin G—which is a plug-in hybrid supermini—is a completely different car from a BYD Dolphin, an electric car or a BYD Dolphin Surf also electric, but a small car.
