Jazz 2004 IDSI - Overheat, fans faulty
« on: January 25, 2011, 11:23:10 AM »
Hi all,
i'm new here, and just like to ask if somebody can give me some information about the faulty i experienced last week.

So, i was driving and suddenly i got the overheating indicator lights up in my panel.
Checking the water level, and it's normal.
Found out that the radiator fan stopped working, the carbon in the fan pulley was too thin, so it was replaced and the fan worked again...

I knew the fan was not working because my mechanic tried to jumper it directly to the battery, and it was turning very slow.
We tried the other fan beside the radiator fan, and it's not working also.
After we fixed the radiator fan, we waited until it got very hot, turned on the Air cond... but still after some time, the other fan (this fan positioned on the LEFT of machine area if we faced the hood from front)...this fan was still not working.
Can somebody tell me what fan is this supposed to be? i didn't experience overheat again until now... Is there special condition that will make this fan turns ON?
Is this other fan broken or ...?
Sorry if it's confusing, as it's confusing for me also... maybe if i can't figure it out from here, i have to take to Honda dealer to check using their computer software...
thanks...

As far as I understand it one of the fans comes on when the temperature reaches a certain level to cool the engine etc.

If the a/c is switched on or the engine temperature is really high then both fans work together.

Also when the a/c is switched on both fans should cycle on/off.

So, in short - if A/C is turned ON then both fans should work?
because on my jazz now, only 1 fan works...

yes the standard temeperature that the engine fan kicks in is at 75 degrees this is done by a thermostat that can be replaced with a lower temp one if you want from "spoon" for about £48 quid, one fan is fo AC one is for the engine.  the thermostat has a wax like residue that has a spring loaded connector that makes contact when the wax melts, simples.
