Ignition Key Won't Turn - Any ideas?
« on: October 02, 2024, 03:26:14 PM »
2003 Jazz,
Suddenly It was extremely Hard to put the key in or Take it out and I can't turn the ignition anymore.
I have tried spraying a bit of wd40 in the keyhole  and wiggled it in various ways for like 30minutes  while also turning the steering wheel in various ways with varying force.
Tried with the Other Key as well, & yeah it's EXTREMELY Hard to put in the key as well

Anyone has had problem like this or maybe knows what's up & what could be done?
Thanks.

I had a similar problem with a 2005 Jazz. After about 16 years the key would not slide into the drivers door lock. With the passenger door, ignition and boot, it was okay. We did have an almost unused spare key, which was okay in the drivers door and have used that since. However, I have no suggestions on how to resolve your more complex problem with both keys.

Locksmiths use graphite powder to lubricate a stiff lock. It worked for me on a Dacia Duster and on house door locks.

Yes, Ultion say don't use WD40 or oil on their door locks, it breaks them

Same theory maybe

Let's be careful out there !

Fixed the Problem.
I took out the Ignition barrel ( it's a nightmare to do it), opened up the lock mechanism and saw some of the metal moving pieces were bent/mangled.

Removed the faulty stuff and all works now
I reckon My car ignition isn't as safe now and it can almost now be started with a screwdriver if someone really wanted to, but who cares for a 20year old Jazz :D
I reckon it would have been bloody expensive to tow it somewhere & get if fixed Properly with New Ignition barrel and new keys/locks.

I had a car, suspect it was a FIAT Punto that had a button to remove the barrel when the key was in it... Never knew why this was a feature..

The car will not start with a screwdriver as the transponder chip in the key will not be present . They would be able to steer it but not start it.
