Honda Jazz 2012 - doubts about the engine oil
« on: September 02, 2024, 05:18:58 PM »
Hey guys. I recently went to the local auto service here in Lithuania so that they could change my engine oil. I told them that I want a SL/A5 oil according to ACEA. Instead I was very disappointed when I came back to pick up the car and they told me that they poured not A5 engine oil but this one in the picture.

What do you guys think? The owners manual for my Honda Jazz states that I need to use an engine oil that is ACEA A1/B1, ACEA A3/B3, ACEA A5/B5. This is neither of those.

It is still a 0W-20, which is okay. But what about the ACEA ratings? Do they matter?

The Total oil you show says C5 and C6 (if I read it correctly). I would say that's an ideal spec for a Jazz of that age, it's a low enough level of SAPS (sulphur and phosphorus) to keep the catalyst happy but still enough to give good wear protection. I wouldn't worry personally,  it should be a good quality oil.
There's a good explanation of ACEA classes on the Valvoline website (can't seem to be able to attach a  link at the  moment).

It'll be fine. If you are not happy though, buy some A5/B5 and do a change. Very simple to do, lots of youtube videos show how to if you're not sure. My car tends to live on most any quality A5/B5. Castrol, Comma etc. The only oil it didn't get on with was Petronas. The engine sounded rattly after 3k miles, so was changed and the noise went to never reappear.  ;) So if your engine sounds different with the oil, just change it to something else.
