Wing mirror indicators - only work when closed
« on: June 13, 2024, 04:50:51 PM »
Just got a Honda Jazz 2018 and noticed that the wing mirror indicators don't work when they are open but do when closed in.

Is that right or is it a fault (same both sides) and as it works when closed I know the bulbs etc work.

Thank you.

Obviously not correct, can't understand why they don't work in their normal position, they are LED'S and folding them should make no difference. If you have just purchased the car why not take it back to the dealer to sort out?

Yes - just wanted to be sure it wasn't a setting or something I missed as its strange it works when folded in.

At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, are you sure they're not working? You can't actually see them from the driver's seat when folded out, whereas they are very visible when folded in (that usually alerts me that I've forgotten to fold them out before moving off!).

He, thanks for the reply. Yes I'm in the driveway in front of a glass porch and see the reflection of the car in that.

I'm not a car electrics expert  (especially on modern cars)  but one possibility is  the live feed to the mirror indicators   is able to short circuit  to earth/ground when the mirrors are folded out.Maybe a bare wire moves as the mirror moves,. Electricity tends to take the path of least resistance and will follow the short circuit  rather  than pass through the bulbs..  If both mirrors share a single live feed a  fault in one mirror might affect both sides.

Is there any change in the brightness of the main indicators or their blinking speed with mirrors in or out?

But this is just one possibility. There may be  other reasons.

Try them on when you've pushed the 4 way flashers the emergency triangle button with the mirrors out
