Leave it in drive?
« on: January 04, 2011, 06:56:46 PM »
Whilst stopped at red traffic lights I began to ponder whether it is it better to shift to neutral/park
or leave in Drive when siting at lights or traffic jams etc.
Not sure why this came to mind, as having driven many shapes and sizes of automatics,
both conventional and cvt for the last 30 years, I have always taken the "relaxed position"
of leaving in drive and using the left foot to hold the car still, with no apparent ill effects.
Anyone have any thoughts, opinions or "facts" on this matter?

Depends on how long I'm stationary.

If I know the lights will be long, I will put it into neutral- otherwise, it will be in gear

I often hear a grumbling/grinding when I leave it in D and stationary. Anyone else get this?
