Knocking Noise from front left wheel
« on: December 14, 2010, 02:09:23 PM »
Hi guys

I had new brake pads and disks fitted about 4 weeks ago and now I get a weird knocking noise. It only happens when disks are warm and brake from 20 miles or below. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Is there a loose wheel nut or something - or have they not placed something back on the brakes properly - thats what happened to my discs when i got them replaced - there was just something loose - garage fixed it right away at no extra charge!

Hi

replaced front disks and pads again and know noise is gone (fingers crosed). But my brakes feel like a sponge, been advised to drive for about 15 miles should correct itself, is that correct?

Thanks

They say it to get the air bubbles out from the system after a while (it is true but not safe to drive like that). They should`ve done it right at the first time. They`re too lasy to do it again. Shouldn`t take longer than 10 minutes for 2 people.

When I changed the brake fluid in my car it was 100% good at the first time. Anyway every 3 years supposed to change the brake fluid because the fluid binds the water from the air and the brakes becomes softer (the water can be compressed but not the clean brake fluid).

While it is true that brake fluid absorbs water, neither brake fluid or water can be compressed, the problem with water in the fluid is that when the brake cylinders get hot under heavy or prolonged braking the water can boil and form bubbles of steam in the system, then you lose your brakes because steam can be compressed.  Water also causes corrosion in the brake system.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot
