That is not normal, have it checked.  Most probably both front wheel bearing needs to be replaced.  I have a 2005 and I have 2 front wheel bearing replaced 2 years ago.

'Knock-on-lock' used to be a sure sign of a CV joint on the way out.  Wheel bearings normally 'grumble' even in the straight ahead position.

Are your tyres standard size? If not, make sure they are not rubbing on something when on full lock.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

i'm pretty sure its not a wheel bearing as its more of a heavy knocking  than a rumbling  could well be the cv joint , just wondered if that was a known fault ?
joints seem cheap off bgay £16 upwards.
as for tyres its got 15 inch alloys with 185 tyres

It also has been known for the tyre walls to react to full lock with the power steering on. no noise but a jumping sensation..........no car should really be driven in either direction on a full lock.
When it happens just ease the lock off a bit and see if it goes away........... ;)

I have had exactly the same problem on my 2007 se automatic too. Rather than a jump it's more of a  crunching feel, almost as if the car is tripping over itself. Seems to be a fairly common thing. Just be careful of your tyres. Check them regularly because my front right has a big crack in it, and I'm pretty sure it's due to the full lock syndrome. You should never drive with full lock on I know but the steering on the jazz does just kind of throw itself in to full lock if you turn sharply. Try and avoid it though or else you'll need a new tyre like me
:-(
