Honda Jazz (02) Failed MOT
« on: December 06, 2010, 01:20:43 PM »
Hi Guys

My Honda Jazz (02) Failed MOT because Headlight is to high!!! >:(

Can someone please tell me how to adjust the headlight? I have tried the headlight adjustment thing next to sidemirror adjustment buttons but still to high. Been told by MOT guy that normally there are screws next to headlights where you can adjust them but he could not find it.

Thanks

Geoffers

Have you made any modifications to your car? Changed the wheels?

That's curious that, my last mot (June) the guy decided my headlights were too low, despite nothing changing over the last 6 years and he set about adjusting 'em, well it took him ages, I think he soon began regretting his gesture, backwards and forwards for various tools.

So I can't help with 'how' but I think it's not easy!

Afterwards I felt that they were too high and ran around with the 'in-car' adjustment set lower.

The above makes it look very easy ........... It isnt quite so straight forward.

The screws are in there beside the headlights but you need a long (as in 300mm) cross head driver. I think they are white plastic but they are difficult to see. There is a litte picture by the hole telling you which screw does which.

I wound my headlights up because the dash adjuster wouldnt get them high enough and they still passed the MOT.

On another note any reasonable MOT station would adjust the lights for you and give you a pass.........

This "stunt" of adjusting the headlights during MOT and then charging you for it has been going on for years as a means of bumping up the price. We have got a garage in the village that is well known for it everyone that has "twigged" now avoids them like the plague.

another well known sting is for a garage to tell the owner new discs and pads needed now, how times never change

Having 'accredited' Testing Stations always independent of garage workshops, as they do in NZ, is the way around these scams. There are now some in the UK (google) and some Councils have Testing Station facilities which will accept cars from the general public.

Yes there are two local to me.I have used them twice with no problems, as they are run by the local Council there is no "bottom line"to massage.
