coolant air lock
« on: April 28, 2008, 12:32:19 PM »
Hi, I have a 55 plate Jazz 1.4 SE 23,000 miles with a worrying "Wooshy" rushing watery noise from the heater matrix.
My local Honda dealer confirmed an air lock but refused to carry out the work under warranty due the car having sustained front accident damage (repaired). I have tried all the usual bleeding the system including having the car up on ramps the make the radiator cap the highest point. There appear to be no leaks, the hoses are hot and the fans kick in.
Does anyone have any ideas, and more important am I doing any damage to my engine.
Cheers Ian

Hi

I dont mean to state the obvious but have you drained and filled the system as per owners handbook? It does go into quite sum detail in the handbook.

Hope that helps

Many thanks for the quick reply. You were right about the handbook going into detail. I tried as the manual explained and first signs look good, but there is still a rushing water noise although it is better. I will give it another try, as the fans did not kick in with the radiator cap part on at tick over, despite the hoses being very hot. Any other words of wisdom greatly appreciated.

If you have done everything according to the handbook and there's no sign of leaks or overheating then it might be a case of putting up with it.

Might be worth trying an independent garage to see there views before asking Honda again

I am suprised that Honda won't help under warranty. At the risk of being labelled "bolshi" I would have a word with Trading Standards as your rights under consumer protection laws are very strong I cannot understand the Honda dealers attitude on this I would have thought a bit of customer goodwill would not have been amiss.

Radiator turned out to have a small hole in it. After getting the aircon charged, the fans buffed the small hole into a gusher. Radiator repaired £35. Sorted. Thanks to all for help.
