Starting problem - help before I ring garage!
« on: November 04, 2023, 05:37:02 PM »
The second-hand Jazz (2017) we bought a few weeks back has had a problem starting.

When I press the switch half the time it just bleeps at me and flashes various things up on the screen. I then do various things like check everything's shut, plugged in. I switch off and on again. I get out of the car, lock it unlock it, get in etc.

It went back to the garage for some kind of electrical reboot/reset - before that they had said a new part was needed - but then said know they'd reset its system.

What they've done hasn't sorted the problem. But what I wanted to know was the meaning of what comes up on the screen. I've taken this photo, but can't immediately see in the manual what it signifies.

Feeling a bit fed up....

I think the symbol means: press and hold the clutch pedal and press start.
Or in case of an automatic it means brake pedal.

P.117 of the handbook.
"Appears if the keyless remote battery is too weak to
start the engine or the key is not within operating range
to start the engine. A beeper sounds six times."

Ah, so you reckon it is the key thing - the fob - which is the problem.

That would make sense as it is not brilliant at locking/unlocking the doors.

If it is only the battery in the key fob then no need to take it to the garage.   Battery is a CR2032 button battery that you can get in any supermarket,  see the instruction book (or look on Youtube) on how to change the battery - it is easy.   If you have 2 keys for the car change the batteries in both of them.

Sounds brilliant. I was looking it up online. So nothing has to be 'reprogrammed'. It's just a matter of swapping new batteries for old...
