Engine Oil recommendations
« on: September 15, 2023, 11:03:55 AM »
My 2005 1.4 SE is losing oil. My lad who uses it just told me the oil warning light had been on 'for a week or so' and only connected it with the oil in his parking spot this morning!

Any recommendations for oil for this, specifically nothing special! Just going to be topping it up before getting it serviced and the leak fixed un a month or so.

Many thanks..

..Richard

Supermarket  own brand  5w30 or 5w40.   Its often packaged by well known oil companies and the same stuff.
My IQ test came back negative

Coma make up a variety of own label oils. Any oil that's on offer. Don't over fill. Check level weekly.

According to the owner's manual the Mk 1 only had an oil pressure light, not an oil level light. The engine could be well knackered running around for a week with low oil pressure!

I last bought oil from a Ford dealer on Ebay at £6 per litre. Castrol 5w30 A5 spec as per mk2 manual. Sure it would be fine for the mk1, but check your manual. Came in a Ford and Castrol branded bottle. and way less than motor factors or Opie etc could sell the same stuff for. Bargain.

I use Blue Print filters via ebay CarPartsInMotion ebay store, and they are often <£5 if on offer.
