Jazz crosstar 2022 hybrid. Reverse camera
« on: August 26, 2023, 01:51:26 PM »
I bought a Jazz crosstar hybrid in May 2022.
The reverse camera display shows my car to be 30cm more to the right than it really is. This is a problem when reverse parking into a car park space as if I relied on the camera I would hit the car on my left. I have contacted HondaUK with details and photos but they do not accept there is a problem and say that’s the way it is. The best I could get from my salesman was ‘Yes. I see what you mean’
Has anyone else encountered this problem ?

I used to try reversing into parking spaces just using the camera and it would line up perfectly on the screen but when I got out the car was crooked in the space. Now I use the camera with mirrors and the parking sensors and don't have any issues.

Thanks for replying. It does raise the question however as to what is the point of having the reverse camera at all. If I’m using my mirrors and sensors, then the screen is just a false distraction.
Even when parking against a kerb, it’s no use as it is 30cm out

I only use the reverse camera as a guide as when to stop reversing.

I've never used it as a guideline, I use the door mirrors for that.
Let's be careful out there !

You're right 100%
It will be alright in the end, if it's not alright then it's not the end !

i think that is a dealer problem and they have fobbed you off, the lens is not fitted square properly, or been jolted?

I reverse the Jazz into the garage and used a laser measure to mark the exact centre of the door gap at the back of the garage with a white board and vertical red tape. When I reverse in I know I have around 30cm spare each side of the car (with the mirrors in) so keep that distance on the driver side, head out of open window. If I manage to stop perfectly square then the marker is exacty in the middle of the yellow box on screen.

Likewise the E has self parking where there are good white lines. If I set to self park it ends up exactly in the middle of the white lines and the screen yellow box is central to position.

Two things occur to me. Firstly the camera is necessarily mounted left of centre so there must be some image processing to give a centre-line view. This element of the firmware might possibly not be functioning correctly.
Secondly, and this is a more practical approach, there are detailed guideline adjustment options in the hidden settings menu which is intended for the use of Honda techs. This menu is accessed by pressing and holding simultaneously Home+Volume+skip left. When the display changes select the lower option Detailed Settings etc.
Then camera setup can be found in the left hand column. If you feel comfortable you can look at/adjust the various settings, remembering to save if you get a satisfactory result. If all else fails you can reset to default! If any settings are anything other than zero then try resetting to the default.
If younare not comfortable doing this then it should provide some “ammunition” for a further talk with your dealer.
Hope this helps!

I've just got a black line on the nearside garage wall to line my nearside door mirror with.

Works perfectly

Yes, lines on both sides of the garage so you end up one inch from the closed doors, maximising space at the back for boots and bonnets. Sad but true  :D

Out of interest, is it misaligned for both fixed and dynamic settings:

You can change the Fixed Guideline and Dynamic Guideline settings to switch either ON or OFF

Either way I think your dealer should be fixing it.

I don't trust the reversing camera. I wish I didn't have it.

Even if the camera is misaligned it is still useful for viewing the road (and obstacles) behind the vehicule.
I wouldn't buy a car without a reverse camera! However "bad" it might be it still beats mere acoustic parking sensors.

If you are experiencing problems with the camera you should talk to your Honda dealer of choice (and probably mention JazzAndJag's insights about the "hidden menu" and its possibilities for camera alignment.

The reverse camera display shows my car to be 30cm more to the right than it really is.
Looking at the photos you posted, the reverse camera looks ok to me. The camera shows your car to be closer to the blue car parked next to you. And the photo from outside also shows that your car is closer to the blue car. The reverse camera shows a mirror image, just like a rear view mirror would, so left and right switch places.

I've only just noticed this is the case.   I agree.  The painted bay markings  are misleading.

The guidelines are  quite correctly showing the cars   position and width (including mirrors ) in reality. ie how close you are to the blue car . Its not showing you aligned to painted lines that you are not actually  aligned to,

If you run the test again you may find any discrepancy minimal.

Hmmm

To me, the OP seems correct.

This photo seems to show the passenger side too far left :

But this photo shows the passengers side too far right :
