Change accelerator/throttle assembly on CVT
« on: June 30, 2023, 07:44:31 AM »
I am told that the manual cars have a throttle composed of cable and electronics.

After purchasing a well maintained Jazz have found that for some reason that is beyond me my Mk1 CVT has a cable only based accelerator.

Issue is that as I had done with my Stream, and had previously done with a Carina, my wish is to install cruise control. The mechanical based cruise control units are no longer made.

An electronic type of cruise control is available and needs an electronic accelerator control unit to plug into...

Does anyone know if it is possible to 'update' it to the hybrid mechanical cable and electronic position sensor which I understand is on the manual versions manufactured at the same time?

Your guidance will be much appreciated.

OE parts from breakers yard may be an option, however fitting and setting the CC can be an issue.
Your insurance co would need to be informed.
My advice look around for 2011 Jazz with factory CVT & CC.

To fit an electronic throttle would require, at least, new wiring and reprogramming of the ECU. There is obviously a reason the CVT does not have the electronic throttle. I think it best to forgo cruise control as it would not be worth the hassle.

Well Jocko quite right, those concerns have occured to me hence reaching out. Could be going into a world of pain.

Having an enquiring mind it will be interesting to find out the why of the cable only on the CTV.

If anyone knows...
