That postcode freeze is exactly what happened last year, and the year before

They had to issue a second map update about a month after the first one

Nothing you can do but wait

There are posts here from a year and two years ago highlighting the same oroblem

https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=15569.msg131015#msg131015

Yes, I had read through the posts regarding this issue. I have just reloaded and reinstalled the map again, and again everything went through as successful... yet again though, same problem remains. I have managed to send an email via the Garmin site support centre. Hopefully I will get a reply. I doubt very much if my dealer can do anything, though I will give him a call on Monday morning. I am scheduled to try and negotiate around Nottingham on the 17th, so unless I get any Garmin response it looks like I will resort to Apple  :o

Hi Nicksey,
I have the exact same problem here. Updated last week to the latest maps. update was successful. Can't search anymore. Did the update again, still can't search.
restore navigation settings in the app afterwards didn't help also.
Did you get any response from Garmin?

Where is the professionalism left in these companies where a known bug that was corrected successfully last year is repeated this year? Competant programmers replaced by cheaper school leavers yet again?

Having been in IT, the programmers, after correcting the error, probably forgot to put the new code into the main branch so it was missing, again, for this year's update

No quality control
Let's be careful out there !

Hi Wasabi79

As yet, nothing from Garmin. They responded to my email with an automated reply, that states they generally respond to emails after 2 business days but it may be longer during busy periods.
Today was the 3rd day, so still a bit early to chase them.
I did phone my dealer on Monday about it, and I am taking the car in on Friday for them to have a look at it. As this seems to be a recurring bug, I doubt they will be able to do anything until Garmin themselves sort it out. I will ask my dealer if it is possible to remove the two 2024 maps I have installed though, and get me back to where I was pre install. We will see, watch this space on Friday.

Hi guys,

I've performed the update to 2024.11 maps (USB stick, Garmin Express, car).
Garmin really tried, it even went the extra mile (see the attached picture, Update 123% complete). This was tricky, do not remove stick, do not turn off car but going over 100% at one point I should do one of the "do not" things mentioned, there is no other way to stop it. But after a few more minutes it went in Update complete, 100% done. Phew!
If I try to search for a town, I get the crashing bug on the second letter entered. Now I know that I'm not alone, this gives me comfort.
My town, in Netherlands, is called Xi Er Fu Se Mu (according to Garmin/Honda map) and Hilversum according to everybody else. There is another town called Wijdemeren (but Wei De Mei Lun, according to Garmin/Honda).
Being a little bit familiarised with Japanese,  I find it funny (Mc Donald's is transliterated Ma-ku-do-na-ru-do in Japan). It's a Japanese car, ok, but my user interface is set to British English and I live in The Netherlands, so way do I find this strange spelling? Other towns in my region are OK.
I also appreciate the fact that, when I click on more info button, to see some information about the town, the "town" icon is displayed over the town's name (so you cannot see its actual name, just Garmin's representation of it).
There are no traffic information providers for my region, so no traffic information.
I attached pictures, let's laugh and cry together!
The silver lining is, at least for me, that I don't use Garmin's navigation, I use my phone in Android Auto mode. I just want Garmin/Honda Navigation to be updated, you never know, maybe I go somewhere and I forget my phone, I need to have a backup.

I feel better now that I shared my experience ;)

The more updates you do the higher that 100% + gets

The last one I did I think it got to 240% before dropping back to 100% when complete

I seem to recall that our Honda Garmin updates are a separate team to the main Garmin PND update team

Just have to wait

In the meantime I'll stay on 2023 maps because I use Google Maps

I have had also had  these strange place names. I had assumed that it was Pin Yin , the phonetic way of writing Chinese using Latin letters.   But it could be something similar in Japanese  aiding  those who update the maps
.    I looked briefly at  Calais and up towards Belgium    IIRC Calais is written with a K and fairly recognisable as sounding like Calais  and other places seem to include administrative regions  and compass directions ,something like ' east  of Kal ay'. This  may help them  locating places and 'stitching' overlaying maps together.     But its very weird and shouldnt really be appearing to users.     You can still search for places using their correct local name, same way as you can usually find places by either of its commonly used bi lingual alternatives .

I've just been informed the search bug has been fixed

You'll need to perform a complete new update starting with car to USB

There's only one update a year, usually Jan or Feb, so you can't have the latest. Look in the settings of the Garmin for the installed map and see if it is 23 or not.

So why did I only start getting the map update message in November?

I took my Jazz in yesterday because the 2 new 2024 updates I had done both failed when it came to inputting the postcode. The technician said the updates didn't look right, the information contained in the indexes look wrong compared to previous map updates. He has downloaded the update on his computer/stick, and I take the car back on Monday morning to see if his attempt will solve the issue. Incidentally, he told me they had a brand new CRV that was being picked up by a customer, who tried to input his postcode only to find the same problem!

Hi Nicksey, Kremmen,
I did the update again today (13-jan-24) after the message from Kremmen that the bug should be fixed.
empty USB ->car-> computer -> car and I can confirm that it fixed the bug.
Cards are updated and I can search again!  :) 8)
