Interior light puzzle
« on: January 12, 2023, 04:13:59 AM »
When the doors are opened, the centre interior light comes on, but not the one above the front seats. Is this normal?

The front one works fine if switched on manually.

Any thoughts from the collective? :)

This is normal. The center one has a 3-way switch (on, doors and off) while the front one only has 2 ways (on or off).
So apparently the front one is for reading etc. Moreover the front one are 2 separate lights for the left and right seat.

Thanks for the replies.

The Rover 800 I had years ago had an illuminating ignition barrel, which I loved!

I have never had any problem finding the ignition barrel just by touch. it is all down to muscle memory. I am however struggling with the new car as it is slightly lower and at a slightly different key angle. Once the muscles learn where it is all will be fine.

No such key issue with the MK4 :D

Re, the front map lights, my 8G Civics they came on with door open but my 9G didn't. I changed all 3 in the 8G's to blue LED for poser mode.

I'm sure they all come on in the 4, can't remember and it's too wet to go out and check even though the garage rear door is only 10 secs away :)
Let's be careful out there !

I agree, it just looked cool when you opened the door, and the ignition barrel lit up. Details, details... :-\

With the mk 4 you dont even have an ignition barrel.   But there is a similar sized illuminated  on/off  switch.
Back in the day firing a car up with a separate switch  was in the realms of rally cars etc   :-*
I will fix that dripping tap.  No need to keep reminding me every 3 months.

The original Mini had a floor mounted push starter in addition to the dash key.

Every old car I ever had had a separate starter button, normally a pull switch similar to the choke.

At least with this car, it has a proper key to start it! My last one (Renault) had a stupid keycard thing which I loathed.

The 9G Civic had an illuminated steering column keyhole but once sat you couldn't see it, but due to its concave design you didn't need to see it
