Dipped lights in Crosstar
« on: December 17, 2022, 07:42:00 AM »
hawe question to new the last generation of jazz owners. I had testdrive today and noticed that dipped lights were weak riding in the dark but when switched to auto they were ok. Is there a way to make them brighter?

Personally I think they are quite bright! The difference is that you can adjust the height on the dipped beam. Maybe it was in the lowest position, which I can imagine is too low to have a proper beam that extends far enough.

There shouldn’t be any difference in brightness resulting from auto or manual operation, so this sounds as if you didn’t actually have the headlights switched on. If you want to control the lights manually, you rotate the switch on the end of the stalk ... one click switches the sidelights on, two clicks switches the headlights on. From your description it sounds like you might have only turned the sidelights on. That would be an easy mistake when test driving an unfamiliar car. In real life, there’s no need to operate them manually, the auto function works well (the exception to that is in daytime fog, when the auto system won’t work).

As commented by Marco1979, you can adjust the beam height but if that was the problem then it would be the same for auto and manual, you wouldn’t see any difference.

Yeah i hawe Alfa Romeo and on her 2 clicks is the headligts, the icon on honda stick looked as a long lights indicator not a passing lights one

And the auto in alfa means you are giving with the lights to the Twilight sensor

Default settings are a guide, but personally I prefer to adjust beam height by reality, not what a setting says should be ok.    You can watch the beam height pattern going up or down in the dark as you make adjustments  . I then chose the height that really wont be dazzling other drivers.  NOT the height that gives me the longest view on dipped beam. It might mean  its not quite as good for me but   I'd rather drive a  bit slower when necessary rather than be the only driver who can see.

When you refer to "... switched to auto ...", are you talking about the auto on/off function that turns the lights on as it gets dark, or are you talking about the auto high beam function that switches between dipped and high beam automatically? Your description suggested the former but maybe you actually meant the latter?

If it's the auto on/off function, then there shouldn't be any difference in brightness whether you've turned the lights on manually or have let the car do it's thing automatically.

But if you're saying that the lights are too dim when dipped but OK when the auto high-beam switches them to main beam, then it sounds like the beam setting is too low.

On the 4 you can't turn the lights off completely whilst driving.

The stalk rotate is spring loaded and as soon as you start to move dipped beam or DRL comes on automatically. You can override that to sidelights
Let's be careful out there !
