New Model Jazz Improvements
« on: September 05, 2010, 10:25:21 PM »
Here is a list of what I see as useful improvements over the old model. It’s not a long list but that’s to be expected, as the Jazz GD was such a brilliantly designed and built small car. It was always going to be a hard act to follow. Anyway, these are the things I like and I hope to add more when I get to know the car better.

1. The rear seats can now be folded without having to either remove the headrests or slide the front seats forward. There is also a useful under seat storage pocket.

2. The audio system will now play MP3 CDs but it would be nice if my Si model had the USB socket of the EX.

3. A trip computer A and B with the ability to have the trip computer A reset automatically after refuelling.

4. A repositioned interior light that is located higher in the boot so is less likely to be obscured by luggage.

5. Improved airbag protection with the ability to disable the passenger airbag catering for a rear facing child seat though I doubt I will be using this feature.

6. I feel that motorway driving is now much more relaxed with the i-vtec engine though I think the handling of the GD and low rev torque of the i-dsi was better for town and country roads.

For those who have changed their GD model for the GE, what are your likes over the older model?

Another improvement I should have added is the lower UK road tax band of the GE but unfortunately the cost savings have been negated by a higher insurance group.

Two more improvements:

1. The electric windows can now be operated for several minutes after the ignition has been switched off.

2. Lower spec models now have an intermittent rear wiper.

If the main wipers are on and you engage reverse gear, the rear wiper will automatically operate too.

Yes I noticed this too but I'm not going to add this to my list yet as I have my concerns they may operate when I don't want them to, like reversing from the drive on an icy morning forgetting that the rear wiper blade may still be frozen to the window. It's similar to the problem of the front wipers operating on a dry windscreen when the windscreen washers are frozen up.

After 3 of the old Jazz models, first thing I noticed on my EX is that the centre console is no longer illuminated at the front. Wouldn't have taken much to add a couple of bulbs. I find it difficult to 'rummage' in the console in the dark. Love the spec though.
