Crosstar undercarriage woes...
« on: February 23, 2022, 08:54:01 PM »
Heard a bad scraping noise from driver's side wheel this evening. Assumed it was a stone stuck between the disc and dust shield. One point to note...the Jazz has thick shields which are very nice quality!

Anyway, with full lock on I saw and found nothing. Problem persisted so checked on opposite lock and found some large twigs had lodged themselves into a gap toward the rear of the wheel arch cover (sitting over the sub-frame).

Not easy to pull out and quite sharp, so I have a nasty feeing they've killed the left CV boot (as they were pressing up against it). Unfortunately too dark and cold to make a proper inspection, but it does raise the point why Honda decided not to fit an underbody engine cover to the Crosstar.

I certainly didn't roll over the twigs and their final resting place leads me to think an undertray would have likely deflected them.

I'll find out in the morning. Fingers crossed, it's not torn or leaking!!

Considering what the Crosstar is advertised as I find the omission of an under tray bizarre.
Let's be careful out there !

Undertray - photo - on mine. Looks to be covering under engine same as other cars.

In that case Honda have silently added what was missing from my 2020 Crosstar. In addition to providing some protection I reckon the undertray will help the engine to keep warmer during winter.

Maybe removed at predelivery and forgotten? A bit far fetched.

Are there what look like retaining bolt/clip locations?

A knowledgeable person provided this explanation https://clubjazz.org/forum/index.php?topic=12442.msg87626#msg87626 . It seems that Honda have reacted to adverse comments about its absence.

It probably naïve to think that if jayt43 has had damage that needs repair because of Hondas previous  omission they would be shamed into covering at least part of the cost.
My IQ test came back negative

Good news. Seemingly no damage to the CV boot or brake lines.

However, as I was checking, my concentration was disturbed by 5 fully loaded Apache helicopters circling above (my neighbourhood being on the outskirts of Budapest).

Puts things into perspective...
