Towing option?
« on: October 08, 2021, 10:11:28 AM »
Hello,
Can you please tell me,
There is a hope for towing bar/ towing a small trailer or bike racks, on the tow hitch, for the MK4/hybrid?

Towing options/ specs?

Thank you.

I do not understand this non hybrid option, the competition offers towing options for their hybrid models, like Rav4 hybrid, Corolla, and Yaris Cross, Honda only on C-rv hybrid, and I love Honda and Jazz.... :'(

PS: This is my current Jazz(2003),83HP, towing 350kg with no problem, I want a new one, but lack of towing options.

I have an approved detachable towbar of the brand Brink under the car. I am only allowed a bikecarrier with a maximum total weight of 70 kg. (carrier + bikes). Not towing a trailer (official)

Has link to brink fitting instructions. Only for bike carrier.
Toyota Auris hybrid also had zero towing dating, as Does the current hybrid camry.I
I think more not worth type approval costs rather than ability

I’m talking about the UK, and not NL.
Illegal to even fit it in the UK no matter it’s use.

But Deathstar, the topic starter is not in the UK, but in Romania...
It is quite possible that the regulations there, just like in the Netherlands and here in Poland, are different than in the UK... Tow bar allowed, but only for a bike carrier.
If nothing goes right, go left!

In the UK the Jazz is not type approved for a towbar as there is no towing weight.

Have a look at your V5C

If you install one it would invalidate your insurance.
You can buy them, but it’s your risk and what is to stop someone towing with it if you sell the car in the future.

You can however install a tail gate mounted one though.

Our Jazz is a 2005 model, and came with a tow bar fitted. Never been used by us though!

Does the 'no towbar' rule apply only to the MK4? I can imagine Honda being tetchy about drilling holes near the high-voltage battery or a rear-end shunt causing the towbar frame to distrort the area around the battery.

Brink says. "Do you like cycling, but is your car not allowed to tow trailer weight? The RMC Brink bike carrier solution might be the answer to your problem. This system is not able to tow, but it does allow you to carry. Almost all bike carriers can be mounted on this carrying solution"
https://brink.eu/en-gb/towbars/towbar-types/bike-carrier-solution/
https://brink.eu/en-gb/towbars/frequently-asked-questions/is-there-a-towbar-for-hybrid-or-electric-cars/

See attached instruction sheet. It is not much harder than fitting rear mudflaps.
Brink give a rating plate label, and that states the only bikes , no towing.
If brink have done this and they are oe m to a few mfgrs, I can t see why illegal to fit.
Toyota had a modified towba r and cycle carrier for the hybrid autos that had square tube connection to stop took using with trailer
