« on: August 05, 2021, 08:31:38 AM »
Have the new Mk4 ex, Is there a cruise control option on this model anyone know, the one that lets you set it say at 70 mph?,  I cannot find it in the handbook, Is it under a different name of something else?.
Thanks

What I've yet to understand is can you set CC without the auto follow ?

In the M4 roadworks for example the limit is 50mph. I set my Civic cruise to 53mph because that is GPS 50mph.

As most cars speedo's overread I'm often travelling slightly faster. At the appropriate time I pull out and slowly overtake then back in, all at GPS 50mph under cruise.

What I don't want is the system slowing me to speedo 50mph as I approach.

No, there is only the one setting, but in the situation that you describe, as you approach the vehicle in front and it is detected by your vehicle, as the defined distance is reached it would begin to slow and then follow, at this point you can take control by just applying the throttle, indicate and move out, once the throttle is released the ACC will automatically resume.

In motorway roadworks I travel at speed of surrounding traffic ( as long as it is at or below posted speed limit according to my speedo ) - that higher reading on your speedo is there for a reason, it is a buffer between you and some 'zero tolerance' chief constable... ( like they had in Wales a few years ago, and why many bikers and car drivers stopped visiting Wales).   What is the difference between 47 and 50mph in practice  in the grand scheme of things, it is the difference between taking 12.5 minutes,  or 12 minutes to cover 10 miles at a steady speed.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

No, there is only the one setting, ...
My Toyota does allow you to turn off auto follow (called ACC I think), but I have only ever done that once, when it was struggling to differentiate between lanes in roadworks. I really don't see why you would want to be able to switch it off since the accelerator or brake pedal do that anyway. It is always best to keep things as simple as possible with any kind of automation.

When I use the M4 between Reading and Heathrow it's stupid o'clock and very few vehicles on the road.

I can do J3 to J8/9 at 50mph then J8/9 to J10 at 60mph without having to turn CC off for any reason. If it's ACC then I'll just pull out earlier :)

I've been doing this journey for 2 years at '53mph' without issue.

I'm still seeing those who are doing well over the posted limit then brake for the Specs camera and speed off again. They don't understand average speed.
