Fuel tank refill after low fuel lights up
« on: August 03, 2021, 11:56:43 PM »
I know that amount of fuel that every pump can put in tank  can vary, but interesting amount of liters that  can by filled by pump automatically when tank almost empty
- low fuel warning lit up (Honda said that our reserve is around 5.3l when low fuel warning come up)

I've just checked my data as I know I had that situation ages ago.

After quite a few posts on Civinfo saying that some had taken their 8G 'tank range' down to as low as -50 I had a situation where I accidentally got mine down to -30 but still running OK.

When I did find a garage I got in 46.81 litres into the 50 litre tank.

Scary
Let's be careful out there !

With the Mk2, the tank showed empty when there was about 8L left. The Mk4 has a different shaped tank. I've not run it to "indicating empty" yet, but I believe it's around the 5L mark, which would give you a range of about 50-60 miles before it's all gone.

The Mk 4 Jazz handbook states that the low fuel warning light will come on when there is approximately 5.3 litres of fuel remaining.

I wanted to understand how many litres of fuel  can be filled in our tank when light come up and remaining km is 0.
Today went to gas station with low fuel light up and 1 km remaining, topped up  tank by portion of 16l then twice 10l, then tried to put more in automatic mode and guess what happened - in about 1 second pump stopped filling up and spilled some drips of fuell, displayed  2l on meter  :o( can’t believe that in 1 second pump can fill 2l) I think that is tip to gas station ….. Newer will fill tank to full in automatic  mode again.
So if I understand right when I approach to 0 km I still have about 4l in tank (managed to fill 36l)
The light come up with 53km remaining.

There has been a long standing theory that the fuel gauge and associated warnings are set to stop you actually running out of 'go juice'
Let's be careful out there !

I ran my first tank down so I could fill up with my preferred fuel.

The last fifty miles on the gauge drop twice as fast, so you might get 25 miles before zero range.

I had to run in eco mode and slow to below 60mph and just made it with 10 miles range left when I should have had more than double that.

From refuelling, it seems there may be 4L left on mine when the range reads zero however I won’t be using that.

On the Toyota hybrids I previously had, one way to damage them is to run them out of fuel. Then they run down the big battery pack below it’s normal lowest level and the car is bricked. The battery pack may be able to be recovered if they can get it to charge using a specialist dealer charger (there are only a few in the country)… otherwise it’s a new battery pack needed.

This actualy can happen to any hybrid car (flat High voltage battery when tries to start ICE without gas in tank), i run to 0 0n meter (not in tank) only for knowledge how many liters of fuel still in tank as reserve when meter says 5 km to zero, the gauge is very accurate i can say, when BC started to annoying about low fuel there 53 km on meter and i actualy get 53 !
But i must say my rides at this point was on flat roads
I not calling anyone to run their car on fumes !!!!

Why let the car get so low on fuel that you start to worry how much further you can travel?
