Seat Belt warning light for rear passengers...
« on: June 27, 2020, 11:40:03 AM »
How does the Jazz (GE and GG) know when there are passengers in the rear without seat belts? I see no obvious rear seat or belt cables or sensors.

My information is about Mk3, but we can assume it's same in Mk2. There is a microswitch on the seat belt lock, and warning comes if lock is opened while driving. So it does not know if there is somebody seated without seatbelt from the beginning.

There are no wires to any of the rear seatbelt clamps, not like the front seats.

I see. When does the warning come? When somebody sits there without seatbelt or how?

The manual says (about page 24 and 25):

The rear seat belt monitor system judges the use of the rear seat belt based on the amount of seat belt pulled out from the retractor. It is not an indicator to show that the rear seat belt is actually latched. Correct latching of the seat belts should be confirmed whenever the indicator shows a rear seat belt is in use.

I don't know how it does that  :-[

I see trhat now that I test it. The warning, with the 3 passengers in the rear icon, changes theh images when  each belt is pulled out a few inches. Thenn I would remind the rest of the passnegers to 'buckle up'. Whereas the front has an occupancy sensor too to remind me or them to buckle up.
Thanks! Mystery solved. i was thinking therewas a hidden strain gauge under the floor.
End of question and thread.
