engine oil pan/sump replacement

Hello All!

my car VIN jhmgg17309S2.., engine L12B11..

a new sump from a garage is quite expensive £316, so have looked for the new OEM sump, like Klokkerholm.

It says it is for L13z1 engine, but mentioned pn 11200-rb0-g00, which I believe the correct for my car.

So, are L12B1 and L13Z1 engines have the same sump?
Is engine code enough to uniquely identify the sump?

any other makers of OEM sumps? not sure about used ebay sumps...

What happened to the sump ? It is quite a substantial piece of aluminium. You can get aluminium welded at certain places.

last year during oil change in a garage, aluminium thread around the sump bolt was stripped.
they made a new thread and sealed the bolt with a "liquid metal".
was told it could be remade next year but could fail and then I will need a new sump.

trying to avoid this, this year I have tried to suck oil through a dip stick tube, inspired by stories on this forum.
but was silly enough to put the hose too deep and it stuck hard. tried to remove it but it stuck even harder.

now I have to disconnect the sump anyway to remove the hose, and I thought it would be a good idea to
change the sump as well. good but expensive...
the part is more expensive than labor (1.5 hr quoted)

Have you tried rotating the tube as you try to pull it back it, this sometimes helps to release it..

A used sump will be fine, but you should be able to get your existing sump repaired.

Generally, there are two options -

1. A helicoil thread repair kit, I'm pretty sure the sump plug is the common M14x1.5 thread.

2. A 'next size up' sump plug kit, you would drill and tap out the existing hole to M16x1.5 and fit a new sump plug.

Both options should be a permanent repair, and it may be possible to do in situ, depending upon access to the sump plug.
