I had a similar experience with another car when the ventilation ducts were flooded on to the electrics. I had no diagnostics or electrical response at all.

Let the car stand and dry out for 72 hours and see if it starts. You might be able to charge the battery while you are waiting? You may be surprised. If the car starts check that the drain hose for the Air-con is clear and the evaporated water is able to drain away under the car (and not overflow onto the electrics). You ought to be able to use a piece of wire from underneath the car to gently unblock any debris which is blocking the evaporator drain pipe.

It could, of course, be a coincidence, but if the problem coincided with the heavy rain, then it's worth investigating - possibility of water damage in the loom and connectors, which can be a temporary short, or a permanent failure due to longer term corrosion.

First of all, are you getting power to the OBD socket?

What sort of a scanner are you using, a generic OBD type, or Honda HDS?

The key flashing is obviously telling you that the immobiliser is not happy, whether that is connected to the loss of diagnostic connection,  not sure. HDS should normally be able to connect to the immobiliser, where most generic types only connect to the engine ECU, so you might have more luck with that. The HDS uses a different protocol to connect to the immobiliser module, on different OBD pins.

It's a sensible plan to try to get the diagnostics working, and go from there, but you may need Honda HDS to diagnose the immobiliser problem.

I had a problem with my Volvo whereby the aerial around the ignition switch wouldn't sense the chip in the key. I bought a replacement, but while checking out the fitting I dropped the adjustable steering wheel right down and on moving it back to the correct position the key worked, and it did for the rest of the time I had the car. Worth a try?

Not familiar withe the Innova, but the elm327 will not pull any immobiliser data.

I would have thought it would connect though. Does it power up okay, just no communication with the ECU?

Did you get your car to start? Your car will not start while the key light flashes. You can only power the accessories.

That's a bummer.

We have a few specialist ECU repairers in the UK who don't charge the earth, such as www.bba-reman.com

Anything like that over in the US?
