Newbie from sunny South Devon
« on: January 09, 2019, 06:57:33 PM »
Hi all, I'm a newbie to the Jazz forum but been sniffing around Honda's for many years. If I can be of any assistance to anybody local to me I will (I'm a mechanic). Just got myself a 2004 Jazz 1.4 SE as a second car and as expected from a little Honda it is light and nimble with enough poke to stay with the traffic, a/c, remote locking etc what more could I want for my £500 !!

I had to deal with the usual ageing Jazz gripes......

Water in the boot - rear roof seam sealer replaced

Slight hesitation - EGR cleaned

Just done a service and surprise, surprise.... front spark plugs NGK, rear plugs Denso..... And the service book showed the last service was carried out by......... Kwik Fit !!

Looks like somebody didn't understand the meaning of a twin spark engine !!

Apart from those common issues the car is great and I'm pleasantly surprised at the boot size!!

I'm taking it on a 1500+ mile trip next month up into the Scottish highlands and I'm sure it'll chomp up those miles no problem  :)

If anybody is local to me in South Devon and needs a hand with servicing etc then feel free to contact me, happy to help out as always  :)

Thanks, Keith.

Welcome, Keith. DSi is a great little engine, with good low down torque, and excellent fuel consumption. What sort of mileage has yours done? Any noise from the gearbox?

A big cause of rough running / hesitation on I-DSi is the rear plugs not being changed, would not surprise me if the rear Denso were the originals from the factory.. Did you by any chance check the gaps of rear plugs.

Nothing wrong with I-dsi engine, even though my wife has a mk2 now, she still prefers the better everyday driveability of the twin spark.
Some people will only consider you an expert if they agree with your point of view or advice,  when you give them advice they don't like they consider you an idiot

Thanks Guys,

The car has done 112,000 miles. I'd agree that the rear plugs were possibly original, gaps were huge (I reckon near 2mm) and the fronts were due a change for sure.

The service history showed the gearbox bearings had been replaced at a transmission specialist and a new clutch fitted while box was off so all known issues have been dealt with. Only thing that isn't quite right (and this may be common) is the stereos main dial for volume & on/off is twitchy when adjusting volume so every so often volume adjustment is a lotto as to how loud or quiet it goes... No big deal as it's not that bad but nice if there's an easy fix.

I'm kind of looking forward to my trip to the highlands next month to see what the Jazz manages in MPG's on such a long motorway journey.  :D
