AC clutch noisy …

… and rough to spin by hand. We found this out after changing an idler pulley un-necessarily  :( :(

Are these repairable - if so how??
if not repairable, and i have to replace with a used item from a salvage yard, how does the AC pump come out? it looks a right B'stard to get at.

4x12mm bolts will see it detached from the block, but the hoses look to be a pain to remove.
Is it a case of going in from the front and taking loads of stuff off??

Could it be run with a different belt and omit the AC pulley?

Thanks in advance

Having a similar issue (A/C dead), found some video from EricTheCarGuy on youtube with interesting hints, but sadly no first hand experience of mines.
