Electrical Fault Query
« on: June 23, 2026, 10:11:39 PM »
Last year I was getting a fault on startup. I was advised on here it might be the 12v battery getting tired so I bought a new one and replaced it. The fault went away for months then mysteriously reappeared one morning. My code reader came up with a dash Comms fault as before. I cleared the codes and checked the voltage. Small battery was over 12v and charging at 14+.
The fault was becoming more persistent and harder to clear. So today I took it to an auto electrician, he used an all singing and dancing Top don and pulled 6 codes up. He thinks there might be an internal fault in the cluster and said if it came back it might need sending away for repair which would leave me without transport. Where I live that's not possible as there's hardly any public transport.
So is it possible to fit another instrument cluster? Are they plug and play or do they need coding to the car? There are a few available but if they're not compatible I might as well save my money.
Thanks.
