Crosstar compared to the Honda HE-V
« on: March 13, 2026, 07:01:10 PM »
Hi all

I was asking for comparisons from anyone who may have had both cars or changed one to the other.

My 23 plate crosstar had her first MOT today and passed with flying colours.

Whilst i was waiting I took an instant like to the new 26 plate HE-V, a pretty splendid looking car. Can I ask if anyone has experience with the HE-V? The salesman kept saying there was not a big difference to the two cars albeit the HE-V was slightly higher, he commented that women love driving them, my wife has fears on bigger cars so I was seeking any good or bad points.

Thank

Terry

I don't think there is a "Honda HE-V", do you mean HR-V (or to give it it's full set of alphabet soup, "Honda HR-V e:HEV")? If so, there's at least one contributor to this forum who traded in a HR-V for a Jazz:

Hi Terry, ive not owned an HRV but have twice test driven one and decided not to switch from my Crosstar.  I'm on my second Crosstar as a result.

Everyone is different and looks are in the eye of the beholder etc etc.

My decision was based on: 1. There's not a lot of additional room in the HRV over the Crosstar.  2. Its physically bigger than i need.  3. Its slightly less economical and 4. It depreciates faster.

But it looks great, and has more presence on the road.  I understand that means something to a lot of people, but not me.  I think the deals are pretty good on the HRV too.

Hope that helps.... 8)

HR-V features that I miss:
1. The bigger boot
2. The bigger battery which can hold more regenerated electricity on long descents.
3. It's more comfortable on rough roads (but the smaller Jazz is easier to drive around potholes).

The Jazz manages about 15% more miles per gallon and feels more nimble, partly due to the smaller size and partly because the HR-V is a bigger vehicle propelled by what is a slightly tweaked version of the Jazz's powertrain. We have these cushions https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0C784NYKX to get our seats to a more comfortable height. If I raise the Jazz's driver's seat rather than have the cushion then my legs hang over the front of the seat.

I believe the HR-V has the same 1.5L engine and drivetrain to that of the Jazz, but in a larger more expensive package.

The HR-V looks more premium as well, but offers little in technology to its smaller Jazz cousin.

It all comes down to looks and slightly higher specification, but you have pay a lot more for it.

I didnt need a larger vehicle, and the sole reason i bought a Jazz, was because of its legendary reliability.

I didn't buy the Jazz because its a looker, i bought it because of its reputation and because the car was almost £7000 below list price.

Im so impressed with the car, that im definitely getting another when the time comes to change.

My Wife is disabled and her disability has gotten worse over the last few years so she finds getting in and out of the Jazz a bit more difficult the HRV is much easier for her to access, we also found on a 20 mile test drive focusing on the fuel economy we could not achieve the stated 53mpg but we were happy with the indicated 65mpg on rural roads at upto 50mph on a freezing cold day.
So we took the decision to order a new HRV Advance for April delivery as the boot will easily accommodate her mobility scooter, wheelchair or rollator (but not all at the same time), we did find the HRV has a better ride quality plus it seems quieter than the Jazz, it seems the ride has been tuned to the 18” wheels and lower profile tyres, we will be sorry to part with our Jazz as it’s been an amazing car and we have had no issues (no mirror or seat crack problems)
