Buyer Advice - Checking for Rust!
« on: August 05, 2025, 07:23:44 PM »
Hi all,

Heading off to look at a high mileage (100k+) '09 Jazz tomorrow, no signs of corrosion on MOT history but I'm wanting to make absolutely certain it's free of rust before I buy it!

I'm going to have a good look at the arches and sills, but I wanted advice from owners - are there any spots I should take special notice of when inspecting? Or any other things I might need to check that are Jazz specific?

Thanks in advance!

Rear wheel arches are particularly bad for rust, especially around the filler flap as the road salt gets stuck round it and rots it through from the underside.  Stick your head underneath and have a good look around.  Rear end of the sills is another place they like to go, in front of rear wheel.

Wheel arches are a big one. Also there’s some issues with roofs that leak and start to cause rust where the spare wheel is stored in the boot - have a little look in there.

I’ve just bought a 2015 jazz and am going to see if I can take the arch liners out at some point to try and treat behind there as it seems to be a problem. Interestingly I saw a rusting jazz on the way home quite substantial rust in the wheel wells. When I looked at its MOT there was no mention of it. So the mots can’t be trusted completely.
Best of luck with it! I love mine
