Help I tried Replacing My Alternator
« on: May 18, 2025, 10:11:06 PM »
Hello everyone,

I tried to replace my alternator on my 2005 Jazz. I bought a second hand one from eBay which had 16000 miles on it.

After a while day I managed to finish everything up but when I put the key in the second position (to turn the electrics on) I hear some weird high pitched electrical noise from I think near the battery? And then a click noise from the same place and then it'll stop for a while and then come back on.

When I start the engine, the alternator is atleast charging the battery but the voltage is still very low. Like 12Volts with just the engine on and then it'll dip below 12. The battery warning light has come on as well.
Not sure what I can do.

One thing I think I may have done wrong was the connection to the alternator where there is a nut locking a metal plate with copper wires on it down, on the old alternator it was stuck between 2 nuts but on my new one I just tightened it down under 1 nut. Could that be causing this issue?

Could it be that I didn't tension my belt properly? But the sound is coming even before I turn the engine on.

When I first tried to start the car I did hear some weird noises and quickly turned the car off. Can't remember exactly what they were but maybe some like idk pops or smthing. Tried against and it wasn't there this time.

Any help would be appreciated thanks 🙏
