iVtec RPM activation?
« on: May 21, 2025, 12:48:51 PM »
Does anyone know the RPM when the iVtec kicks in on a Honda Jazz MK2 1.4?

I would be interested in the answer

I have a CVT model, and when you select S,I am sure the VVT engages,

Far more spritely than in normal D

You can read more about ivtec here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/VTEC. It seems to me it is not like in older Hondas that you can feel the moment it goes from low to high lift profile. It is much more refined, using also load and throttle position and not just rpm. It seems to optimize constantly, regardless the rpm.

That's interesting. I think you are right although I would have expected to detect a bit of a shove when the bigger valve opens. Presumably, the power output is so nuanced that the step change is no longer detectable in much the same way that modern 'low blow' turbo engines operate. Thanks.

iVTEC is to optimise engine performance and economy totally different to VTEC for performance

With the CVT its pretty much seamless in my experience, and I have found I need to push the revs beyond 4,500rpm to get any noticable increase in 'punch' out of the engine.
