Handbook also talks about ‘colour audio’ and ‘display audio’. It appears mine is ‘display audio’
Of course the book doesn’t tell you what these descriptions mean and it’s only when you start reading that you realise which one you’ve got! And then you see *not available on all models
. In tiny writing…
I’m bu**ered if I’m gonna read all 444 pages…and then find only 3 quarters apply!
That confused me a bit at first.I kept thinking 'colour audio' was a higher specification than 'display audio'.

I think some reading the forum may be nervous of buying a mk4 because of all the 'bells and whistles' to learn. Especially if like me they are not up to speed on computerised cars, computers, smart phones, smart TV, Games consuls etc etc. (and things I dont even know about. ) I use them but often at a superficial level of competence, missing out on a lot of their advantages. Its not just an age thing. Sometimes you simply dont have the need , or dont know what you are missing.
All recent cars now have more stuff to learn. I speed up reading the manual by skipping things I wont need like installing child seats, certificates of conformity etc.. I put some on the backburner to learn later ,such as the many circumstances when driver aids might not work (at first its enough to know you should always remain in charge and never totally rely on them working as expected. )
I still learn new things. Although I use the scroll wheel on the steering wheel I didnt know about that display symbol until this post.

Yet Ninanina has already mastered it and giving help.
It is possible to drive the Mk4 knowing very little about its special talents. And you may never learn to use them all. But its a shame to miss out.
Those who have never driven an automatic, used electric handbrakes etc fear not. It doesnt take long to master and you'll never want to go back. And you are futureproofing yourself.
