Facelift 122bhp
« on: November 03, 2023, 04:23:25 PM »
So the latest Jazz has a 122bhp compaired to the ‘old’ one with only 109bhp.

So what did they do to get more horsepower out of it. Is it a change in software or did they do something with the petrol engine?

How come the Honda website says 107ps?

107 horsepower is the gasoline engine that charges the high voltage battery.
122 horsepower is the electric motor that turns the wheels.

So I believe that when the pedal is floored, 107 PS comes from the gasoline engine and the remaining 15 PS comes from the HV battery, together providing 122 PS to the wheels.

My EX spec is engine 95HP max revs and electric motor 70HP max with 107HP in brackets which I suppose means max combined. So the re-face has squeezed another 15 or so HP out of maybe a newer motor and/or remapping the engine.

But what is the difference in use. I dont see difference in the acceleration times between the old and the new for example?
So why the 15bhp extra?

I think the old one also has 122hp in reality, but Honda is always conservative in their data. Maybe now it needs more hp on paper to stand out from the competition?

I have found my '22 Jazz perfectly adequate in terms of performance. It leaves the mark very quickly, reaches 30 and 60 very quickly, and although in 14500 miles it has never exceeded 80mph... I am sure it would if required (and it was legal).

On Wikipedia the mk4 Jazz before the facelift had the LEB8 engine which has 98 hp. I suspect the facelifted version gets the LEC6 of 106hp which is also in the HR-V. When looking at the electric motors of both, the HR-V has its maximum torque from 0 to 3500 rpm while for the Jazz this is from 0 to 3000 rpm. Also maximum power if different; 122 hp is not described here.

Maybe someone owning the 2024 version can look up the engine code mentioned on the product sheet? Interesting to know whether LEB8 is updated or simply replaced by LEC6!

According to the V5 registration document, my Jazz Advance registered July 23 has the engine code LEB8.

A good point, the 0 to 60 is always faster in most reviews when measured compared to paper spec.

My jazz is very quick to 30 - you can leap into gaps at roundabouts very easily and you don’t even need a “mooing “ level of power to do so.

I don’t think Honda will have made any physical changes to the petrol engine or electric motors. They need to run with a drive train for a few years in production to be commercially viable . This is shared with the HRV model too . Software can be upgraded far more easily and the power outputs can be configured to produce more PS -within reason. The 10% or so improvements are easily delivered by software and programming changes - least I would expect so . No doubt others familiar  with software in cars would confirm or not ?

Remember that car manufacturers always design in updates into their ranges right from the start. This way they can justify price increases. I agree that the improved hp is probably a software tweak. Most common “ built in upgrade is ‘ body strengthening ‘, which is sold as improving handling.

My Advance MY24 still lists LEB8 as the engine code.
