CVT level plug?

Hi,

I'm planning on changing the CVT fluid in our 2008 1.4 soon. I've read a few guides and watched videos so think I know what I'm doing. However, I've seen a couple of mentions of removing the fill plug when draining and topping up. Does the mk1 have a fill plug as none of the guides I've seen seem to mention it.

There is no fill plug.

Filling is via the dipstick pipe.  So you could remove the dipstick.

Sorry, I think I named it's wrong. I've seen it referred to as a level plug. You remove it when filling through the dipstick pipe and when the oil reaches the correct level, it will come out of the level plug.

Have you perhaps quoted the procedure for a manual gearbox?

The engine/CVT gearbox must be warmed up, and you check the dipstick I think about 1 minute after switching off the engine.  Exact procedure described in both Honda and Haynes service manuals.

It is not possible to remove all the old CVT fluid.

I find my CVT (for iDSi engine) requires about 3.15 litres from 4L can of Honda CVT oil (I've replaced it 3 times to date).  If you wish to avoid overfilling, start with 3 litres, then 'top it up'.
