LED BULBS AND MOT

Just dropped my wife's car ( Suzuki SX4 14 plate)  off for a pre MOT service and they have told me that the LED bulbs will have to come out and have originals put back in for the MOT as the law has changed, so I'll be doing the same for my Jazz when the time comes as I've put LED's in both.

Luckily only a 10 minute job,  only need to swap bulb and unplug the 3 pin socket from existing car wiring off the power supply and plug onto back of filament bulb.  Really is 'plug and play'.   'Boy racers' have been swapping out HID bulbs for MOT for years.

Yup,

I've got the original H4 bulbs for the Jazz still so that's easy.....can't find the H7's for the Suzy though so will have to buy some more.

... but interestingly they have issued an exception for motorbikes, where aftermarket LED headlamp "bulbs" are no longer a reason for MOT fail. Not too sure of the reasoning behind that decision, if it's OK for a bike then why not a car, they both use regular style H4 or H7 etc.
Also I'm not quite sure of the legality aspects (for bikes). While it may not be an MOT failure that doesn't mean it is "legal" (construction and use etc). Peculiar situation. I've hunted for a statement on the legality but haven't found anything as yet.

I thought about this too and ideas are...

Generally only one headlamp so if that bulb blows it's dangerous - LED lasts longer so less likely to fail

Headlamp on a bike aids conspicuity so the brighter (during daytime) the better

Errr - I dunno - just typical British rule making with little logic behind it.
