Cheapest Oil & Filter Change Ever?
« on: January 20, 2021, 05:24:51 PM »
Honda is due an oil and filter change in the next couple of weeks, so I've been shopping. I had a balance left on a Halfords gift card from when I insured the car through a comparison website, but the net cost to me is £9.98 !!  8) Castrol oil and Bosch filter too.

It's close, but I might just have beaten you...

Last two oil changes on Jazzes - Fram filter @ £2.80, Platinum 5W-30 Full Synthetic £32 for 20L with a 20% voucher, so £6.40 for 4L oil.

Total £9.20  :P

I always buy filters when I see genuine, Fram, Purflux, etc. cheap anywhere. Platinum is Nissan's dealer branded oil, manufactured by Elf, so perhaps not so grand as Castrol Magnatec... and if I had paid full price, I would have busted  ;)

 8) Fantastic. I take my hat off to you! Can't believe I've overspent by £0.80 though.  ;D

I think you have set the record, let's see if anyone can beat your £9.20.

i have another little story to add to this thread  last year I decided to change the oil using castor gtx, new filter/ air filter/ cabin filter, front and rear pads, and new  discs front and back all pagid make , all ordered from car parts direct online, the parts duely arrived aprox four days later all correct and  fitted that weekend, no problem at all.
approximately three weeks later i had a  full refund  from car parts direct for the goods supplied back on my payment card, i could not understand it I rang them and spoke to a nice lady who informed me that the goods supplied to me had been returned to the warehouse booked back in hence the refund I then informed her that i had fitted all these goods to the car and wished to pay for them in a proper manner, she went away came back on the phone and told me to forget it as it was too much trouble to sort out so what do you think of that???? excellent products but I was totally honest and up front with them but told to forget it???

I have had this happen twice with Amazon where they have sent the wrong item. You report it via their website and you are told to forget it. Both items were not a lot of money.

My son-in-law ordered a bike for my grandson. It was a partly assembled jobbie and arrived missing a pedal. He phoned up and they sent him the missing pedal. Along with the rest of the bike! When he called them back they said that was the cheapest and easiest way for them to deal with it and just to dispose of the parts he didn't need. One trip to the bicycle shop and one pedal later he passed the second bike on to a neighbour's wee boy.

Well done! :D I've bought oils for as low as £22 but I try to use Shell and 0W-20 grade too and those never come cheap.

Oil & filter change done! Result. Borrowed a mates 2 post lift and workshop to make life easier. It's howling a gale outside and too rainy for driveway work. Had a good pre mot look round the car, and all looks ok. MOT in a couple of weeks, so it great to have had the opportunity for a proper look underneath.  :D

On the subject of service costs, check out the Bentley PDF attached.  :o Front discs and pads £1515.00. Read discs and pads £725 !! I replaced the rear discs and pads on my Jazz for 6.2% of that price.  :D
