and if so what is the next layer of paint under the white (which is black) as it isnt bare metal

i just want to know as i was washing and polishing the car today and paying attention to the areas that dont get touched much like round the petrol cap and round the inside edges of the doors etc

but i just noticed that when polishing round the bottom of the petrol cap where those two pieces of metal attach it  to the car i noticed i must have gone through the white paint on a high point and it is black underneath, not metal colour

If it’s just the petrol flap could that be plastic eg black plastic underneath?

Cars are robot sprayed these days. Areas that are classed as not highly visible don't get so much final colour paint.
The robots will be programmed that way to save paint & money. You'll still have the rust prevention and primers etc.
All cars are like that I had a VW that had very little top coat paint in the boot well area (non visible).
It's nothing you have done and some light colours show up more than others .........white being one of them I would think.

so its like some black plastic sealers stuff painted white from the join between the two pieces of bodywork, a bit like the plastic stuff they use around the inside of the door frame edges to seal the weld seam, i am glad about that

i will just touch it up but i am glad it isnt down to the bare metal
