Clunk sound from under car over bumps at slow speed

I'm getting a clunking sound from underneath the car somewhere (not sure if it's front or back) when going over bumps/potholes etc. The sound is quite noticeable at low speed.

What are the first things to check and common likely issues on the Jazz?

Likely to be rubber suspension bushes or possibly drop links, both are common things to go on most cars not the Jazz in particular, neither are particularly expensive to get sorted, bushes tend to make a clonking noise, drop links tend to make a clicking noise.

My drop links clunked when they were worn out. Couldn't feel any play but replacing them solved the problem.

I see the drop links are very cheap. I've ordered a pair. Even if it doesn't solve the noise it seems like a good idea to refresh some 15 year old ones for £12.

Drop links are the common one on  a Jazz. Like Jocko I had no apparent play but clunked badly. Replacing them cured it completely.

Did you notice there are two sorts for the Mk1? One where the studs come out at the same angle, one where they're at about 90 degrees. I think they changed around 2006 so not sure which you'd have.

As I understand the only tricky bit about changing them is shifting the nuts. Plenty of posts on here with advice. Try going to the Mk1 forum and searching drop links..

My local Motor factor initially gave me the wrong part but replaced them with the correct part. The computer showed the wrong number for my 56 plate Jazz. The pair I required had less offset (HO-LS-8967 and HO-LS-8968).

If you turn the steering to full lock you should be able to see which type is on your car without having to dismantle anything.

They look like the later type. I think you'll be alright with those, I believe the change was well before 2006. Bear in mind that they are handed, left and right are slightly different.

The easier way to distinguish which you need is the joints - on the earlier type they are roughly at right angles, whilst on the later type, they are just offset. Jocko's diagram shows a picture of the early type.

I had this issue and I have two issues on my MOT that are likely related, so we will see if the sound goes. My car is in the garage right now
